Fake UGG Boots Are Rampant

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

As with any iconic fashion item, the Chinese knockoffs will follow. And UGG Boots has now made the big-time. UGG Boots are in very good company along side Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and any sterling Tiffany jewelry. There are thousands of websites offering up the fake goods while using actual company pictures to lure the unwary buyer away from their hard-earned money.

UGG boots are made by Deckers Corporation, then sold to US retailers.  They are never mailed to a buyer directly from China.  Deckers is working hard to shut down the counterfeit sites but it’s hard to stay ahead of them.

I have learned that the top three web servers for fake UGG Boot websites are located in China (duh), the United States (surprise) and Panama.

We had a customer try to return a pair of fake UGG Bailey Button boots to our store.  The very first thing we noticed was a cardboard hang-tag safety pinned to the boots.  Say what?  The next eye catching item was the shiny synthetic material (fake fur) lining on the cowhide suede boot.  The list of what was wrong with this boot went on and on from there.

The biggest problem with these fake boots is that the websites use the actual UGG pictures to lure the unwary buyer.  And if they don’t fit or you have a manufacturing problem with them, they can’t be returned. Also what you get is a boot that would retail in our store for half of what the buyer paid.  Actually, we wouldn’t sell the fake UGGs we’ve seen because the linings aren’t natural fleece and we only sell boots with natural sheepskin fleece lining.

One easy way to make sure a faker isn’t stealing your money is to always check the UGGAustralia.com website for a complete list of authorized retailers.

Rolling Stoner Ron Wood Looking Fly In UGGs!

Monday, December 28th, 2009

OMG – Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones was really looking fly recently in UGG boots. Ronnie was pictured leaving his home on Christmas Day in a garish outfit. The wayward Rolling Stone teamed a loud sweater with an equally flamboyant scarf and gold UGG boots as he set out to visit a friend. Unkind observers suggested he was wearing every one of the few Christmas gifts he received.

I love his outfit because I’ve been known to dress similarly.  What the heck?  Life can be so short.  Why not have fun? And haute couture is so overrated.

So ring in the New Year with a colorful outfit that’s sure to raise eyebrows and bring a smile to others.  And if you didn’t get your Gold UGG boots from Santa, come get them from us!

UGG Baily Buttons on Set of Gossip Girl

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Yes, we’re into the prime season for UGG boots, winter. I just have to laugh when I read bloggers who complain about how UGG-ly women look while they’re out Christmas shopping and schlepping around in slush while wearing UGG sheepskin boots. I think the complainers have a pain fetish. After all, who needs to have painful feet? Besides, if it’s okay to wear jeans for comfort and warmth while shopping,  then logic follows that comfort should extend to all parts of the body. Am I right?  Of course I’m right!

Laura Harring

I am all for the comfort of UGG. And the beautiful, fashionable women of Gossip Girls are right too.  Check out these pictures of Laura Harring wearing a pair of UGG Baily Buttons on the set. And Leighton Meester is also looking great in her UGG Boots in Classic Short boots in sand color. They obviously know what we all know – UGG Boots rock!

So carry on ladies ! And Merry Christmas while you’re at it !

How To Wear UGGs

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Okay, I know it sounds looney because you and I know how to wear UGG Boots. But, I get enough of these questions (since I own a store that sells sheepskin boots) that I think it’s time to mention this subject. And men, you too should also wear UGG boots because they look so laid-back. Just look how cool this guy looks in his UGGs. Follow these steps to total winter comfort:

manUggs

  1. Buy a pair of UGGs in a neutral color, such as chestnut or chocolate brown.  Black will work if you must have it but I think the browns look great with just about everything.
  2. Tuck your jeans into your boots.  Skinny works best but straight leg is also good.  For bootcut jeans just wear them over the boot.
  3. Add your winter coat, colorful scarf and gloves and even a cute knit cap.  This looks good on any age.
  4. Walk to the nearest latte stand for an eggnog latte and a chocolate chip cookie. Men, walk to the nearest bar and get a beer.

UGG Boot Tips

  • Please waterproof your boots before wearing them.  Make sure it’s designed specifically for sheepskin and suede.  Spray three light coats, making sure to let it dry between coats.  This step keeps them cleaner too.
  • You don’t have to wear socks with your UGGs.  But if you want to be sure to wear thin socks, not heavy hiking socks.
  • UGG boots are not designed to fit like regular shoes.  They are usually lose in the heel.  It’s why they’re so comfortable.  Think of them as outdoor slippers.
  • Don’t forget to walk to the nearest latte stand for an eggnog latte and a chocolate chip cookie. Men, walk to the nearest bar and get a beer.

Tiz The Season for Fake UGGs

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Yes, it’s that time of the year again: FUGG Season. Fake UGGs. Ebay and Google are full of fake UGG boots and slippers. The unfortunate reality is that there are, for a lot of the luxury brands, counterfeit products.

Last year a woman came in to Snow River just before Christmas. She had bought a pair of UGG Boots, Classic Short in black.  She thought they “didn’t look right.”  And she was right.  They were poor imitations.  The leather was cowhide instead of sheepskin and the lining felt like fake instead of soft sheepskin fleece.  Even the box wasn’t correct.  She had been desperate for a pair of black Classic Short UGG Boots for her daughter’s Christmas present and couldn’t find them in the size needed at any dealer.  So she paid $150 for a pair off eBay. And they were fake. She lost money she couldn’t afford to lose and her daughter got a pair of subpar boots with no warranty.

If you are looking for UGG boots and UGG slippers on-line make sure that you shop at an authorized dealer like Snow River.  We’ve been in the business of selling genuine UGGs since 1985 and trust us, we know the product!

Google is now working with UGG Australia to eliminate them from their search pages, but, like cockroaches, they multiply quickly.  If you look at some of these sites you’ll see that they’re written in Chinglish and are full of errors.  Also, there will either be no physical address or no U.S. number.

If you are in the market for UGG Boots, there are a few things you can do to make sure they are real and not fake. Take a look at the website address, does the domain name include the word “UGG” or does it contain the style name in the domain address, for example, “Dakota”, if so, there is a good possibility they are counterfeit.

Something you should also know, UGG Australia does NOT authorize dealer sales on eBay, trade boards or Amazon.com. If you purchase on any of those sites you do not get the warranty nor will UGG Australia assist with trying to resolve disputes including issues with PayPal refund requests.

UGGs ~ Just Do It !

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

If you don’t own a pair of UGGs by now, the good news is that it’s not too late to buy a pair. These iconic, slipper-soft sheepskin boots went mainstream some time back and will never go out of style. In fact, they’ve become a classic as far as I’m concerned because people have been wearing UGGs in the U.S for more than 20 years.

I’ve had more than a few grandmothers come into our store, Snow River, looking to buy a pair of UGG boots for their granddaughters.  They’ll mention “I don’t know what the big deal is or why the young girls love these ugly things.”  I ask, “Have you ever tried a pair on?”.  The answer is always “NO.”  And 9 times out of 10 after they’ve tried on a pair, they buy a pair for themselves and wear them out of the store.

If you live in a cold climate, there’s just nothing better on your feet.  Whether you think they’re cute or ugly, you will fall in love with them once you try them on.  So quit sitting on the fence about whether to buy a pair of UGGs or not.  Just do it!

UGG’s For Fall

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Fall has definitely begun up here in North Idaho, and as usual, it is spectacularly beautiful. The temperature has cooled down enough in the evening and morning so that the first thing I look for is my warm UGG boots. I use a pair of Classic Short UGG Boots in burnt olive (an old color) as my main house slippers. One of the benefits of this is when I happen to forget to change shoes before I go to town to run errands, so what? I still look alright and my feet are still warm and comfortable. I’ll bet I’m not the only UGG Boots wearer who does this.

Though my burnt olive UGG boots are an old color I am definitely lusting for a new color. Have you seen the new lineup? I think it’s the most colorful selection ever. I love the Pacific blue

which is a beautiful teal color, but Eggplant could win out
UGG Classic Short Eggplant Women's Boot

as it’s so rich looking and a perfect fall color. And don’t even get me started on all of the Metallic UGG boots !

While grocery shopping this weekend I spotted a cute girl wearing black leggings tucked into a pair of Classic Tall Women’s sand color UGG Boots. When she turned away I saw that there was a big hole in the side of her left boot. It looked as if a puppy had chewed the heck out of it. So thinking quickly, I quietly introduced myself to her and handed her one of my business cards for Snow River, the UGG boots store in town. I told her I understood her love for her UGG Boots but if she’d like a new pair, I’d give her a discount for them. She laughed and said she would definitely take me up on the offer.

Now you know one of the reasons why many people choose to live in very small towns. The people are friendly.

UGG’s and Cloud Nine-What A Pair!!!

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Beautiful, isolated Sandpoint, Idaho isn’t known as a hotspot for glamour focused celebrities. Though we are probably the most beautiful city in America, we don’t have enough expensive stores to keep celebs occupied. However, we do attract a few of the more unusual celebrities, I would say it’s the cerebral type. Such as Ben Stein. He has a home here and we’ve known about it for years but have never seen him. Finally it happened. Twice in one month. The first time was when my husband had walked to the post office to mail some UGG slippers and UGG boots from our internet orders. Ben held the door open for him and commented on his cool hat. The next time Ben Stein appeared was actually in our store. A friend who was visiting bought him a pair of Cloud Nine sheepskin slippers and he came in to get the correct size. We were excited because we had been avid watchers of his show, “Win Ben Stein’s Money.” And we have always loved his extra dry humor and delivery.

Speaking of sheepskin slippers, we offer Cloud Nine because they are well made, comfortable and offer styles and features that the UGG slippers don’t. For example, all of the Cloud Nine slippers have soft rubber soles that give you some cushioning while many of the UGG slippers have hard rubber or thin scuff soles with no cushioning. If you have hardwood or tile floors the cushioning of the Cloud Nine slippers is great. Cloud Nine keeps the price down by using cowhide suede outers and a grade of sheepskin that is near but not the same quality as UGG slippers. Ben liked the Cloud Nine Northwest Slip-In Men’s Slippers. We also carry a Cloud Nine Moccasin style, a Booty style and a more classic Romeo slipper. These are just the men’s slippers.

We also have a good selection of sheepskin slippers for women from Cloud Nine. The Sierra Women’s Driving Moccasin is a good alternative to the always popular UGG Dakota slipper.

Treat yourself like a celebrity and put your feet in some soft, cozy and warm slippers from Snow River.

Celebrities and Their UGG’s

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

We all know Hollywood celebrities have been wearing UGG boots for years and now their children are also sporting the super comfortable casual UGG boot such as the classic short and classic tall. It seems that the women tried them first and the men were talked into trying UGGs as well. And we all know that once we get a pair of UGG Classics like the Classic Tall Romantic Flower, there’s simply no going back. But fashionistas love them too!

From Grazia Daily, a daily digest of fashion trends, beauty tips and exclusive A-list news.

You can always rely on Andre Leon Talley [who is the American editor-at-large for Vogue magazine and has been a front-row regular at fashion shows in New York, Paris, London and Milan for more than 25 years] to deliver a good line or two. , each quote is a gem in itself!

On his style:
‘You cannot live your life in the elitist world of fashion and not step out or you’re disconnected. You have to realize that fashion is not the endgame. I started wearing Uggs two years ago. It’s a cozy shoe. Also, they’re only $98.’ In fact, at home, he wears ‘Juicy Couture shorts a Ralph Lauren polo shirt and Uggs. But don’t expect him to wear Crocs. ‘I draw the line at Uggs.’

I recently spotted Sheree Whitfield of the ‘Real Housewives Of Atlanta’  (Bravo TV) wearing a pair of Classic Tall Chestnut boots during one of the episodes. They looked cool and casual with her green velour lounging outfit (at my house we call them sweats). But she wasn’t breaking a sweat.

Speaking of Bravo – have you become addicted to ‘Flipping Out’ like we have? If we won the lottery we’d have Jeff Lewis re-design our house. He had to visit a client who requested that he wear pajamas. Of course he wore a tailored pair along with UGG Men’s Scuff slippers .

No matter how you think they look, UGGs are not a fad and are here to stay.

UGGs and Switzerland

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

I thought you might like to meet Gina the Wonder Dog. She’s the store Welcome Ambassador. Gina is a Corgi/rat terrier mix we adopted from the local no-kill animal shelter about six years ago. When she hears the bells on the front door jingle she goes out front to sniff everyone’s feet (she’s built low to the ground) and cadge a bit of petting. Then, since she’s about 12 years old now, it’s back to the office to snooze some more.

Last week my local dermatologist came in with her family to stock up on UGG boots and UGG slippers. She had sold her medi-spa and has the opportunity to move to Switzerland while her husband works over there. Knowing that it gets cold in Switzerland, they all came in to buy UGG footwear. For herself she bought a pair of Ultra Tall UGG boots in chestnut and a pair of black Gaviotas.  Her husband got the men’s UGG Classic Short boots in chestnut and a pair of Scuff Romeo UGG slippers.  For her UGG boots, the older teenage daughter chose the UGG Knightsbridge tall boots with the zipper and the young teen daughter bought UGG Sunburst Tall boots and then each got a new pair of the Coquette UGG slippers.  With everyone happy with their warm UGG boots and UGG slippers, we know they’ll enjoy their family adventure in Switzerland and will have warm, comfortable footwear while doing it.
